In A Compromised Position…??!!

The other day we were out shopping with Mummy. The weather was nice, no rains now for quite sometime.
We had had a good walk in a nearby field, chased a few lizards and squirrels and even a stray rabbit. We went over to say hello to a few buffaloes that were grazing around, obviously happy with the abundance of grass the heavy monsoon rains of the last 3 months had helped grow. They, however, were totally un-perturbed by our hearty greeting and continued ruminating after a cursory glance at us.
We were too happy and busy to be offended, though.

Finally, it was time to go home. The sun was on its way to the western horizon, casting a beautiful orange glow all around us. It was a perfect evening.

And then, suddenly, it happened!

The sky was overcast with menacing, dark clouds reminding us of the dementors from Harry Potter’s world. (But it was still hot and humid, and our souls weren’t being sucked out of our bodies, so it definitely couldn’t have been them!)
The clouds rumbled threateningly at a distance and it was only a matter of minutes before heavy rains reached us.
We rushed into the car and Mummy speeded home. It was fun…we raced against the rain which was following us just at a few metres distance.

Now, being water-loving Labradogs, we aren’t usually ruffled by rains.
But then, we had been out enjoying a beautiful weather and we weren’t in the mood to get wet now.
You see, the walk from our car-park to our front door, though not too long, was long enough to get us drenched to the bones if rains as heavy as that which was following us now, caught up!
Mummy floored the pedal, but unfortunately, nature won.

It was the heaviest rain of the season, the news told us the next day. A small rivulet that ran through the city, dry and dormant for years, had flooded the banks that evening.

We watched the rain for some time, sipping hot tea (read that-watching Mummy sipping hot tea!) with wheat biscuits.

But soon, the terrifying roar of the thunder got to us. That day we could fully appreciate how even the bravest of the brave could be ruffled by nature’s fury.

Daddy’s chair provided some comfort and under it, reassured by the soothing music Mummy’s stereo played , we soon fell asleep no longer afraid that the sky might fall on our heads.

When we woke up, the night sky was silent. And the stars sparkled and glittered with the promise of a dazzling, sunlit day ahead.

Dear Ginger and Buddy,
Thanks so much for your advice and well-wishes to Mika. Your momma is so clever and she knows what to do with injured leg.

Glad you all had a good shopping but we're sorry to hear that both of you got wet because of the thunderstorms. The roar of thunder is always scary too! We never like it at all.

What a wonderful post! You two write so lyrically. I'm glad you missed most of the rain - after all, it's not so bad being soaked just a short way from your home.

We loved your post about the monuments and really enjoyed all the beautiful photos.

Thunder and Ciara would have stayed out in that rain for hours - they just love the rain. Not Phantom, he would be huddled in his crate staying warm and dry.

And the Momster would be very happy to be enjoying that good hot cup of tea:)

I guess we know what they mean about the skies opening up on you now! Wow! You really got drenched.

I'm glad that's the most embarrassing thing that you have to worry about, though! Poor Shawnee was naked in the bath!

Thunder and lightening are very hard on some doggies. Blog Mom has had a couple of labradogs and she said she really worried about them during big storms. Most of us Shar Pei aren't too bothered. I don't think it's just a matter of being scared. I think it kind of hurts some dogs. Their ears are pretty sensitive.

lotsa licks, Lola

You two really got soaked!! What a storm! We have been having lots of rain with thunder and lightning but nothing like that. Holly, who used to love standing in the rain as a puppy, has decided she hates to get wet and both of us hate storms! Lots of love, Debbie and Holly

That rain has come down here! We're having huge winds and it is bucketing down! SHE wanted a picture of us looking at the rain, but we're not going near the door!

Congrats to India (or Delhi) for hosting such a successful Games. We were camping for most of it, but we watched the Closing Ceremony, too. VERY COLOURFUL.

Poor kids!! Scary stuff...my own 2 aren't too fazed by storms, but I know they feed off of my own energy. I have to work to be calm when there are HUGE storms about. Glad I found you! If you get a chance, please check out my blog: http://www.arwenspack.blogspot.com/
Thanks!

Gosh, you were two drenched labradogs, for sure! I don't get too skeered by thunder but like you, if it gets TOO loud, I take cover!

That was quite the day you two had! Frolicking in the morning sun, dripping like wet mops in the afternoon and snuggling reassuringly under the furniture during the downpour and Zeus' tantrum :)

I would have been right there under the furniture with you :)
